Online Medical Decision Making Lab Frequently Asked Questions

I have been getting a number of the same questions emailed to me repeatedly:

Question Quick Answer More information (Please Read!)
There is no place for me to sign in before I begin. That's because you sign in afterwards. A link will be provided after you sign in.
Do I sign in twice? Yes. The first sign-in submits your data to me and is the sign-in you just completed.  The second sign-in allows you to receive credit.  The data submission sign-in will appear automatically after you have completed the experiment.  After you have submitted the data, a debriefing sheet with a link to the credit sign-in page will appear.  Follow the link and sign in a second time.
I forgot to sign in the second time.  Now what? Email us. Email the MDMLab at mdmlab@rci.rutgers.edu and we'll send you the URL.
The date on the credit sign-in sheet does not read today's date!  It says January! That's OK. It's just a quirk of the way sessions are created on the Psychology Department web sign-up sheet.  Sign in anyway.
The date and time on the confirmation slip does not read the correct date and time! That's OK. It's just another quirk of the way sessions are created on the Psychology Department web sign-up sheet.  However, you may want to note the correct date on your slip in case you want to email me with a problem later.
Did you receive my data? Almost certainly, unless your computer or browser crashed.  If you saw the sheet that read "What the Experiment Was About" and included a bunch of links to the Psychology department web sign-in sheet, then we have received your data.  It is impossible for the page to be displayed if your data hadn't been received.  If your computer or browser crashed, however, it is possible we may not have received your data.  In that case you should email us.
Everything looks like it worked, but I'd like you to confirm that I received credit. No, I can't do that. Please understand that we will end up having several hundred people participate in these experiments.  If we checked individually whether every one of these people recieved credit, we'd never have time to do our own work.  You can check to see if you recieved credit yourself. Remember it takes up to a week to assign credit for an experiment.
Why haven't I gotten my credit yet? Depends. How long has it been? Credit isn't assigned automatically by a computer -- we have to go in and do it by hand. We only do this roughly once a week. So if you've participated in the experiment recently, it because we haven't gotten around to it yet. If it's been a while, there may have been a mix-up, or you may have forgotten to sign in the second time. In that case, email us to make sure you get your credit.
My computer/browser crashed, or something else went wrong, and I'd like you to confirm that I received credit. Email me. If something didn't work, then it's fine to email us to tell us that you need credit (in fact, you may not receive it otherwise.)
I accidentally signed in twice on the Psychology Department sign-up sheet.  Will you no-show me for signing in twice?  No.
You don't REALLY check to see if people do the same experiment twice, do you? Yes, I sure do. Yes, I do.  No, I won't give you credit twice for the same experiment.  Not even if you do it days or weeks apart.  So don't try -- you're just wasting both our time if you do.
Are the RPUs/hours/credits for this experiment good for anything besides helping fulfill the research requirement for Psych 101? No.
I emailed you and I didn't get a response. Either the question is answered in the FAQ, or I lost your email. If you're sure that the question isn't answered here, then I've probably lost your email.  I'm sorry!  Email me again.  You might mention that the answer wasn't in the FAQ so that I know you read it. :-)
Are you sure you won't confirm that I received credit/recieved my data? Positive.  I won't answer emails asking me to, either.  (See question above).
Wow, you don't seem to want people to email you! I do want people to email me, but not because they haven't read the directions! Email can be very helpful because it lets me know when there are things about the program or sign-in system that don't work/are confusing/need to be added to the FAQ/whatever!  And I want to make sure everyone gets credit who deserves it.  I just don't want to answer the same questions over and over -- hence the FAQ.
Whom am I emailing? One of the graduate students in the MDM lab (headed by Prof. Chapman) Not really a frequently asked question, but it does seem to be a common point of confusion.  Current grad students include Meng Li, Natalie Obrecht, Jeff Vietri, and Marco DiBonaventura.

If your question has not been answered by the FAQ, contact us at mdmlab@rci.rutgers.edu.  Please use "Online Experiment Problem" as the subject of your email.
